The Comical Side of eBay Domain Name Auctions

By Jim | December 18, 2007

Browsing around eBay this morning, something dawned on me. Some of the domain names that people try to sell on eBay are just downright ridiculous.

Me included, sometimes.

I wonder if the “why did I just register that” feeling comes across the average domainer like it does me every once in a while - when I say “average domainer” I do not mean you guys that deal with domain transactions in the hundreds of thousands - I mean those of us that are building our portfolios to become “above average”.

I cringe as I watch some of our auctions close and hope I make the dough up on the next domain. In contrast, I can let a domain sit on Afternic and Sedo for months or years and hope the right buyer comes along. I tend to list on Afternic and other venues when I think that I should or could, eventually get what I am asking.

The funny thing about eBay domain name auctions is most go way undervalue. I’ve purchased domain names under my buying ID and turned around and sold them for a nice profit, as I am sure most of you reading this blog do. I have personal knowledge of buyers who have purchased domains from me and “flipped” them for upwards of $5,000, which is sadly chump change compared to some of the domains sold elswhere and listed every week on the DN Journal. My focus is eBay and volume.

I guess patience is a virtue.

A virtue I don’t have!  :)

…….So check out my auctions - you are sure to find a deal!
