The Comical Side of eBay Domain Name Auctions
By Jim | December 18, 2007
Browsing around eBay this morning, something dawned on me. Some of the domain names that people try to sell on eBay are just downright ridiculous. Â
Me included, sometimes.
I wonder if the “why did I just register that” feeling comes across the average domainer like it does me every once in a while - when I say “average domainer” I do not mean you guys that deal with domain transactions in the hundreds of thousands - I mean those of us that are building our portfolios to become “above average”.Â
I cringe as I watch some of our auctions close and hope I make the dough up on the next domain. In contrast, I can let a domain sit on Afternic and Sedo for months or years and hope the right buyer comes along. I tend to list on Afternic and other venues when I think that I should or could, eventually get what I am asking.
The funny thing about eBay domain name auctions is most go way undervalue. I’ve purchased domain names under my buying ID and turned around and sold them for a nice profit, as I am sure most of you reading this blog do. I have personal knowledge of buyers who have purchased domains from me and “flipped” them for upwards of $5,000, which is sadly chump change compared to some of the domains sold elswhere and listed every week on the DN Journal. My focus is eBay and volume.
I guess patience is a virtue.
A virtue I don’t have!Â
…….So check out my auctions - you are sure to find a deal!
